Question 1

What should you wear to a golf tournament?

Accepted Answer

If you're playing in a golf tournament, the safest outfit is a collared performance polo with golf shorts or pants, plus a quarter-zip or light jacket if the weather calls for it. Many golf facilities require collared shirts and do not allow jeans, cargo shorts or gym-style clothing on the course, so a polo is a better tournament default than a t-shirt. For company and charity teams, matching moisture-wicking polos also give the group an easy way to add a company or event logo. Volunteers who are not playing can usually use tees or polos depending on the event's dress standard.

Question 2

What is considered proper golf tournament attire?

Accepted Answer

For players, a collared polo with golf pants or tailored golf shorts is the most reliable tournament standard. Avoid jeans, athletic gym shorts and casual t-shirts unless the host course specifically permits them. Women's course rules vary more, but collared, sleeved or golf-specific tops are commonly accepted depending on the facility. For a corporate tournament, choose a clean performance polo rather than pushing the dress code toward casual. The host course's rules always take priority, but a golf polo keeps the group within the safest range for most venues.

Question 3

How is golf tournament apparel different from regular golf clothing?

Accepted Answer

The garment itself may be similar, but tournament apparel has to work for a group rather than one golfer. That makes consistent colors, extended sizing, companion men's and women's styles, logo placement and repeat ordering much more important. A tournament polo also needs to accommodate company, charity or sponsor branding without becoming difficult to wear after the event. For the playing group, performance fabric still matters: a lightweight moisture-wicking polo is generally more useful for a full round than choosing a heavier shirt solely because it looks more substantial.

Question 4

Can golf tournament apparel be customized with company logos?

Accepted Answer

Yes. For corporate and charity golf polos, left-chest embroidery is usually the best starting point for a company or event logo. It keeps the branding visible without dominating the shirt and suits the polished appearance expected at many golf events. ShirtsBargain has been undertaking bulk embroidery projects on performance polos including the Sport-Tek ST550, ST650 and Port Authority K540 for years now. If several sponsors need recognition, we suggest keeping the primary tournament or company logo on the polo and use sleeves, secondary placements or event signage for additional sponsor branding rather than overcrowding the front.

Question 5

Which fabrics are best for golf tournament clothing?

Accepted Answer

For players in warm weather, lightweight moisture-wicking polyester is the best overall choice. The Sport-Tek ST550 and ST650 are both 3.8-ounce 100% polyester performance polos with moisture management, while the Port Authority K540 is a 4-ounce 100% polyester performance polo with moisture-wicking properties. These are better starting points for an active round than a heavier traditional polo. For a less active corporate outing or cooler conditions, a 65/35 poly/cotton pique such as the 5-ounce Port Authority K500 can provide a more traditional polo feel. For cold conditions, keep the lighter base polo and add a quarter-zip or jacket rather than moving straight to a heavy shirt.
